Pollyanna and Tango
No sooner did we get on the river at Porto Jofre than we saw a mother and grown cub. Their names are Pollyanna and Tango. Pollyanna is four years old, Tango is a one year old. They were walking in the vegetation along the river’s edge looking for caiman. We spent 30 minutes with them as the sun set. After it became too dark for photography we went to our flotel. A good start to this trip!

That brown shape in the vegetation was our first glimpse of a jaguar! It was Tango, the one year old male cub of Pollyanna.

He came down from the higher vegetation and we got our first real close up of a jaguar

Tango came right up to the water’s edge

Most of his gaze was directed at the vegetation at the edge of the river, presumably looking for caiman

Our guide was able to get closer as Tango scanned the river for prey

The slightest movement caught his attention

A few times he would just stare into the water

Other times he would fixate on something in the far bank, sensing something we could not see

He even gave us a good looking over

When he did not see any caimans he did what every self-respecting jaguar would do, and gave us a big yawn

As Tango went up higher in elevation his mother appeared and the two of them searched for prey from this vantage point

Any movement in the river caught their attention

A bit of play time was interspersed with their hunting
